Most of the participants were very proud of their gaming accomplishments and considered themselves skilled gamers. They often boasted of their high scores and compared them to their friends online. Some of the participants also talked about how gaming helped them socialize and make new friends, especially in their small towns where they struggled to find other ways to connect with others.

One study conducted fMRI scans of gamers and non-gamers and found that gamers have more grey matter and stronger connectivity in areas of the brain associated with attention and working memory. However, it is not clear that this translates into improved problem-solving abilities in real life.
